Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

Happy Sunday Love Bugs!

I spent the last day of this sunny weekend heading over to AMC Theaters in Aventura to watch the much anticipated film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier!

Here I am looking like a tough girl! =)

Captain America returns in this action packed film where he battles a new threat, known as The Winter Soldier.  He is joined by the always beautiful Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff (a.k.a. The Black Widow) and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. This film is jam-packed with action and constant surprise twists that honestly kept me on the edge of my seat.  Captain America is one of my favorite super heroes, so it was a no brainer for my hunny and I to go see it in theaters and not wait for it to come out on DVD.  My boy toy is a super hero fanatic and always critiques these kinds of movies.  One thing he can’t stand is when they veer away from the original storyline and comic book.  I must say, after watching the film, we both really, really loved it, and he appreciated them demonstrated the characters as they are in the books.  My favorite character (aside from the obviously talented Captain America) was Scarlett Johansson’s character, Natasha.  She is super smart, with-it, and talented in what she does.  I would love to be strong like her (in my next life, maybe).  We unanimously agreed that it was better than the first movie.

Here are some of my tips and some of my thoughts for my love bugs who plan on checking this movie out in theaters:

  • While this film includes a super hero that little boys and girls may love, it is rated PG-13 for its intense violence, use of guns, and action (there is no nudity or sexual innuendos).  There are several scenes where guns and bombs are being shot, and violence is very evident throughout the entire film.  This can be very scary for the little ones, so before you consider saying, “Oh, it’s not a big deal, they can watch it, they love action heroes”, think about whether you’re O.K. with your child watching gunshots, blood, car crashes, and bombs explode.   Also, the vocabulary and dialogue is very advanced for small children.  Chances are if you take them to see it, you will be explaining a lot of what is going on in the film.  Since the story changes frequently, you must watch closely to keep up with it.  For example, the story shifts from the past to present future which can be difficult for the little ones to understand.
  • Nothing makes me more happy then to see tough women kicking butt!  I love how the writers portray these women to be just as solid, intelligent, and facetious as the men.  I will definitely talk about this with my girls in my classroom to boost self-esteem.  There are also some very clever and funny moments in the film which I appreciated.
  • Make sure not to get up when the end credits start rolling because there are two scenes that are shown throughout the credits.  After watching the first end credit scene, stay put until a few more minutes of the credits are rolling.  The second scene will come up shortly after.  The end credit scenes are important to the continuation of the Captain America story and it also allows the audience to gain further insight on what is next to come in the next Avengers movie.
  • Since I am an AMC Stubs member, I always use the AMC Theater app on my phone to decide when I am going to use the restroom (because I literally go every hour and always at the wrong times….Thanks, bladder).  On the app, there is a great ‘run pee’ feature that tells you when you should step out of the theater to use the restroom so that you don’t miss any important parts of the film.  The greatest part about this is it explains how far into the movie the scene is, and how much time you have to go and come back.  For example, the first ‘run pee’ opportunity is 45 minutes into the movie and you have 4 minutes to dash out and come back before important scenes take place.  Pretty cool huh?  Download the AMC Theaters app for movie times, theaters, and of course, the ‘run pee’ menu.
  • If you are a Disney Movie Rewards member, do not throw out your ticket stubs!  This film is one of the eligible titles to gain points on your account for cool prizes.  Head over to disneymovierewards.com , log in, and click on the movie ticket logo to enter your ticket stubs.
  • Don’t forget to ask the AMC front desk for a Captain America poster (until supplies last).  I was lucky enough to get one for my little love bugs in my classroom.
This is the cool poster!

And of course, I love to dress up for any occasion, so this was no different.  I of course headed out with my Captain America Shirt, blue mascara and red bow to represent the red, white, and blue colors of Captain America himself (his beautiful, dreamy self…….*sigh*)
